hey there!
i'm kayla marie.
I'm an Ohio-based designer who loves crafting thoughtful, intricate, and exciting work that brings joy and purpose to the people who see it. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
I am currently creating transit advertising at Adsposure in Cincinnati. My job starts on a blank bus and ends with something that makes people do a double-take, at a bus stop, on the street, or even riding inside. Whether I'm designing a bus wrap, a shelter poster, or drafting the template the whole design rides on, it's a never-ending journey that touches real people in the middle of their everyday lives.
Previously, I have worked with different organizations including Miami University's Humanities Department, Pyramid Hill Art & Sculpture Park and Huseman Group Construction. My work has spanned digital, print, social, marketing, and even photography giving me a versatile toolkit and a love for projects that blend creativity and uniqueness.
I take on every project with passion, love, curiosity and the desire to always learn something new. I am always looking for new ways to design with love.
a little bit more about me
Growing up as the child of an architect, I was surrounded by art in every form. From the moment I first saw my father's sketches, I knew what my future held. I started drawing and painting every day as soon as I could hold a pencil, and eventually discovered photography, where I found a whole new way to see the world. My sophomore year of high school, I won a Regional Scholastic Gold Key for my portrait work and a plethora of honorable mentions.
I graduated high school early and spent the next three years working in a photography studio before being accepted into Miami University, where I planned to major in photography. During my freshman year art classes, I discovered Communication Design (Miami's version of graphic design) and a whole new path opened up. I built a portfolio and was accepted into the program alongside 24 other inspired artists.
From there, I went on to receive multiple design scholarships throughout my four years, was chosen to create the brand guidelines for the Electric Root Festival, and collaborated with real clients, including Shooting on Scene. While I was polishing my design skills, I joined the photography organization called, UP Magazine, and had my photography featured in their socials and printed magazine.
During my time as a college student, I interned with Huseman Group, creating both print and digital marketing materials, social media content, safety manuals, and photography. I also worked with Miami University's Career Center, designing graphics for social media, presentations, and marketing materials. In my senior year, I received the Student Scholarly Leadership Award for my work as a graphic designer.
